4 New Year’s Pool Cleaning Resolutions for Crystal-Clear Water

If you’re fortunate enough to have your own swimming pool, it comes with significant responsibilities. One is that you need to maintain your pool’s water to keep it clean and safe for swimmers. Failure to do so can make your pool hazardous at worst and an eyesore at best. Here are four simple pool-cleaning New Year’s resolutions to help you keep your pool water crystal-clear.

1. Switch to Healthier Pool Chemicals

If you’re like most pool owners, you likely rely on chlorine to keep your pool water free of contaminants. However, chlorine has unpleasant side effects, such as skin and eye irritation and hair damage. To remedy that, resolve to use a healthier alternative in the new year.

The easiest alternative to switch to is bromine. It works similarly to chlorine, oxidizing contaminants on contact. However, bromine is gentler and has fewer effects on swimmers. It also continues to work at higher pH and temperature levels than chlorine. However, you’ll need to add a brominator to your pool equipment to use it effectively.

Another remedy is adding special enzymes to your pool to break down organic matter in its water. While enzymes won’t eliminate the need for chlorine, they will allow you to reduce its concentration. That helps keep your pool safe, clean and comfortable.

2. Make a Filter Inspection Schedule

One of the biggest challenges associated with keeping your pool clean is remembering to inspect its filter. Your pool filter isn’t readily visible, so it isn’t always obvious when it needs cleaning or replacement.

To fix that issue, resolve to make a filter inspection schedule and stick to it in the new year. When your pool is in regular use, a monthly inspection should suffice. If your pool filter appears dirty, clean or replace it immediately.

3. Invest in a Robotic Pool Cleaner

If you don’t already have one, consider investing in a robotic pool cleaner. One of the biggest reasons the average pool gets dirty is that its owner lacks the time to clean it. Having a robotic pool cleaner can cut back the time you spend on pool upkeep.

Most can clean the average pool within two hours with no human supervision necessary. Just put the robot in the water and remove it when it finishes the job.

4. Install a Retractable Pool Cover

Finally, resolve to install a retractable pool cover. If your pool remains open throughout the warmer months, it can quickly accumulate debris and detritus. A retractable cover makes is fast and easy to close your pool when it’s not in use.

Having a cover reduces the dirt and leaves that enter your pool, helping keep its water crystal-clear. It also retains heat and keeps animals and children out of your pool when you’re not around.

Even if you commit to all the resolutions above, your pool will still need professional cleaning periodically. Contact our team at Yummy Pools for prompt pool cleaning in Cumming, GA.
